Cortona is now Covid-free!
If you are wondering what is the situation of Covid-19 in Cortona, Italy, this is the right article for you.
I have wonderful news! After two months of lockdown, since May 18th we have zero positive cases of Covid-19 in Cortona. And by saying Cortona, I mean in the whole municipality, an area of 343 km2 (132 sq mi). No new cases were reported for two weeks now and we really hope to keep this trend as Summer approaches.
Since May 30th the entire Valdichiana area (Cortona, Castiglion Fiorentino, Marciano, Lucignano, Foiano) is also completely Covid-free, as all the Corona virus cases were officially declared healed.
Gradually from June on, Italy reopens its borders and allows travels within regions again.
Luckily Cortona, and in general the Southern Tuscany area, was never severely affected by the virus. In Cortona we had 16 people infected as maximum number of cases. Now that we celebrate the healing of all our citizens affected by the virus, we prepare to welcome again tourists from all around the world!
Restaurants, bars and shops in Cortona are opening their doors again, all adopting the proper safety rules and sanitation measures. For now it is mandatory to wear a face mask in enclosed spaces and outside in presence of other people. Distance of at least 1m from other people is recommended, but nothing will prevent us from enjoying our town again.
Our community may still follow social distancing physically but we are very close at heart!
Looking forward to meeting you again in the piazza, I hope you enjoy my photo gallery “Homes of Cortona”.
